My Answer to Question of the Week: Chocolate Caramel Bars

This morning I wondered what question of the week I should throw out there.

Then I stopped and had my mid-run snack: A granola bar. I wished it were a caramel chocolate power bar, but alas, none were stocked in the cabinet.

Which made me think this: I love long distance running. How else could I eat a chocolate caramel bar for breakfast?

So, my question of the week: Three reasons you love to run!

My answers:

  • I eat everything I want. And I mean everything. I love long distance running because I can eat what I want when I want it without worrying about calories. The only thing I have to worry about: how will it sit in my belly during the next morning’s run.
  • Energy. It wastes mine. I have an abundance of unused energy that must be filtered out somehow, someway. Running does it. It gets rid of my antsies!
  • Sensations. I love the way running feels. I love the smells I smell early morning, like rain on the grass or fresh flowers blooming. I love seeing deer and lakes and waterfalls and the ocean when I’m running. I love early morning sunrises. The sensations of running itself, the sweat and heat, the heart pounding, the sweat, I just love it all.

When I run, I feel alive.

What three things do you love about running?

RR: 8.5 miles today in the dark. Start my swimming tomorrow, can’t wait!

This is an old post of mine about why I love running. My training is in the tubes right now, but I still feel the love even when I am not doing my best!

    1) Peanut butter jelly toast (I never eat this when I don’t run)
    2) Sense of accomplishment (starting the day feeling like a winner is a high!)
    3) Ooh those shoulders and those arms

too funny about the peanut butter – I’m a huge addict. .And the more I run, the more I eat! Love it!

    1) Confidence: I love that running & cross-training make me strong both physically and mentally. And I love the way I look when I’m in good shape.
    2) Perspective: When I’m having a bad day, a run always gives me some perspective. Whatever happened usually isn’t that bad.
    3) Being a role model for my toddler. When Kaylee sees me exercising she’ll say “mommy exercising, Kaylee exercise too” and she’ll do her own rendition of whatever it is I happen to be doing.

I love #3, and I am so much like you in that I love when my girls see me working out, running, stretching, swimming laps – and they understand that what I am doing is an exercise and they try to do it. I hope I instill in them the importance of caring for your body! Great comment, thanks!

    1) To smash through my own self-imposed limitations. To feel like something more than a mom, a professional or a friend. To be my own hero.
    2) To set a terrific example for my children. I want my kids to see me and think that they can do anything. My mom was never active. I thought that once I became a parent my identity was over. I never want my kids to think that.
3)So that I can gorge on chocolate, mashed potatoes and loads of cheese. Oh, and ice cream. And pizza. And cheeseburgers… I really, really like to eat. :)

Ok all of yours are mine! That’s so funny about the eating, I am the same way. I love to eat, and running is so great for that :0) Thanks Jennifer!

  5. Wow! This is such a compelling argument for running (especially the eating anything part) that it almost makes me want to start and I hate running!
