The starting line, Disney 2009:

Start Line at Disney 2009 Marathon
Racing . . . The exhiliration. The screaming fans. The endorphin rush.
Or . . . The cost. The heat. The time. The pain.
Some runners live for races. Their calendar is scheduled out with at least a race a month. On months where no runs are available in the immediate vicinity, racers complain. They wait for these challenges, look forward to not only pushing their bodies to go faster and further but to doing it while surrounded by a lot of other runners.
Others avoid races like the plague. These runners would rather spend $100 on a new pair of running shoes than a race registration. Stand in line for a stinky porta pottie at 4 AM to run 26.2 with a lot of other stinky, smelly runners? No thanks, they say! Give me some solo time with the pavement as my only companion and I’ll be fine.
How about you? Are you a racer? Or do you prefer to avoid these social gatherings.
Why do you race, or why do you not race? That is this week’s question! Cannot wait to hear your responses.
