Earthquakes and Day Care; Thankfully Not at the Same Time!

Okay, I know that some of you are wondering how my little one did today, and I am sooooo happy to report that she was FINE!

I said goobye to her; didn’t want to leave without doing that. She kind of cried out as she watched me walk away (can you say knives in the heart?) and then I stopped to listen but, gladly, nothing came! No crying, not at all! Not the entire time I was gone (for one hour).

I did ten on the bike and twenty in the pool. It was an easy workout today because I kept wondering if I would hear her cry or the page come in that I needed to return to the daycare center to pick her up.

Luckily, that never came!

When I went to get her, she ran up to me excitedly but not as though she were unhappy with being left or terrified. Then she hugged the daycare lady before we left!

I stopped at the front desk and signed them up for two months of daycare (I couldn’t do just one). I will go the rest of this week and then begin doing Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; Tues and THurs to train for the tri and then Friday to take a class-abs and weights!

We got home and had some lunch. As we were sitting at the table, the house started to sway, and then it began to shake. I’ve been in two earthquakes before; this was by far the strongest at 5.8 and just a few towns over.

My oldest daughter froze; the youngest of course didn’t know what was going on as I jerked her highchair tray off of her highchair and ushered them into the hallway. Just as the shake ended my husband called. We are now waiting to make sure no aftershocks come through. I know some have, fifteen or so, but we have not been able to feel them.

Once my hands stop shaking I think I will have a glass of wine! (Just kidding, but OH MY GOSH that was scary!)

All I can say is this: Thank Heavens the girls were not in daycare when the quake hit.

Kathy: I’m so glad that she did OK, but how scary about the earthquake! We have hurricanes here, which I think I prefer because of the tremendous amout of warning time compared.

    Enjoy your gym time!

I left my two in our club’s kid center today for an hour or so while I took advantage of some spa services ;-) They were griping but ended up having a good time because the girl was doing a craft with them that involved plastic beads and an iron. They were impressed by that!

  2. I think you deserve a glass of wine after that scare!

That is so great that your little one enjoyed the daycare–now you can fully enjoy your workouts!

Hey Chris! It’s funny, I lived in WPB and a bit north of there for quite a long time. We never had a bad hurricane, just one that didn’t do much damage, until I moved out here. Then they got hit like three times in a row and the town is still pretty devastated. I always said at least you know a hurricane is coming, at that is true, but they seem to last forever whereas the earthquake was here and then gone pretty much. Good for you for the spa services! I have to do that. Did you get a massage? I’m dying for one!

Workout mommy, I had my glass of wine, I’m happy to say lol! It was good, too :0) I’m excited about the prospect of gym workouts-and sleeping in!

    Hi,
I live in SoCal too and we were in the movie theater about to see Wall-E! Felt like the Indiana Jones movie…
I’ve used my local Y since my youngest was a baby and I couldn’t do all that I do without the day care. He’s fine but he still occassionally crys..But he’s always fine and happy when I pick him up.

Hi FitMom! Wow, the movie theater, that must have been strange! I was wondering where you lived when I read your post-but chickens?! We don’t have any of those around here, though we do have our fair share of ducks lol.

    Thank you for visiting!

I’m glad that all of you So Cal people are safe!

Kathy, a massage is definitely on my wish list soon. Yesterday, I got the brows waxed because a unibrow was starting to form. i cannot tweeze my own eyebrows! And, I used a gift certificate (from Christmas) for a manicure/pedicure. I don’t go often, but when I am there, I always tell myself, “I should do this more often!”

You crack me up! The unibrow comment is priceless. Oh my gosh, I looked at my brows the other day and about fainted. There were so many random strays, then this long gray one, where the hell did that come from?! I mean I am only twenty five (cough cough)! I’m dying for a massage. Good for you for going! You deserve it!
