And I can’t wait until the next!
It was a dreadful day for a run. Winds at 14-16, steady, with rain throughout most of the run (all but from mile 20 to about 240.
My feet were a wrinkled mess when I got done.
I had to walk some. There was no other way with the winds being so harsh. In fact, I saw some of the faster runners walking some, and heard one say how brutal of a run it was, and how he was hurting already. That made me feel better!
I bought a plastic parka for three bucks at the expo tent right before the race started and that kept me somewhat dry for the first twenty miles, when i took it off (the sky had cleared-I thought the worse was over).
I had to stop and use the bathroom four times. Let me tell you, that was no fun (and very gross). You know how it is with long distance runners and the bathroom . . . add that to being completely soaked througha nd through, which makes getting your pants down tough, and then trying to get toilet paper off the roll withwet and freezing cold fingers. Not a pretty site! the last portapotty I stopped in, at mile 17, was so disgusting I thought I might get sick.
I had a lot of great thoughts on this run. I will spend some time writing them out in the course of the next week or so.
I did it. I can’t believe it. I actually did it! 26.2 miles, and I can’t wait to do my next . . . june 3 in San Diego . . .
Hi,
Stumbled upon your blog by accident. Nice work (finishing the marathon). What was your time? Just curious;-)
You know, I read you had to go to the toilet many times. This sometimes happens when it is very cold and you are not dressed properly. You don’t sweat enough(because of the cold) and your system tries to get rid of everything in another way. Next time make sure you don’t get cold and keep sweating enough. Think that should stop you from getting sick during your run.
Anyway congratulations “be proud of yourself”
Gonna run my first one 14 april London Marathon.
Only did a half marathon so far in 2 hours. But a complete marathon is something completely different.
Keeping my fingers crossed.
Bye
naoual
That’s really interesting about the bathroom! I read something recently in one of my running magazines about digestion and the bathroom-I’ll have to pull that out and post. I know that it happens to a lot of long distance runners. the toilets were a mess LOL!
So yours is coming up in two weeks, yay! Congrats, check back and let us know how it goes. I made it under 5 hours, but barely. I’m hoping for 4:30 on my next one. I’ve been doing some speed work and have improved my time by half a minute but don’t know if I can carry that over for every single mile I run. If I do, well, that would be fantastic! Also, hoping the weather conditions are much more conducive to racing-it was horrible that day!!
Good luck, and let us know how it goes!!
